Tools used for stretching ear lobes usually. Not an accessory, but many people do wear them as jewelry. It is not safe though because it can imbalance your ears, since the sides are different sizes. The gauge size is at the bigger end of the taper.
"Can I buy some tapers to stretch my ears?"
"She used tapers as jewelry and now her ears are uneven."
"Dude! Those tapers are for stretching, not wearing!"

Something that makes swimmers happy :D
Well, all athletes really...
It's working out really hard for a few days and then doing barely anything in a short amount of time. (usually right before a big game or meet)
When we were tapering, we only did 2500 instead of 7000 =)

A term that can be used when referring to reducing the dose, when using a drug.
Tapering can help an addict when trying to quit a drug. Splitting a pill, snorting less, and even injecting less.
Swim: Are you off them xans yet?
Swim 2: Nah, but I'm tapering my Xanax bar because I don't want to get seizures.
