Something (book, film, singer, actor, etc.), that isn't clear, if it is just 'good' or just 'bad'. People have a lot of opinions on that, and no one can without prejudice really say, what is the right opinion.

Kafka was a controversal writer.

when an artist makes a reference to a (person, event, etc.) in a song that is controversial.

Kanye West's verse from Go Hard:

"Imma tell you like george bush told me
fuck y'all niggas im out of here"

is a controverse.
