A metaphorical opiate inhaled when faced with loss, failure or defeat, especially in sports, politics and other tribal settings.
The effects of copium include, but are not limited to: extreme rationalizations for the defeat, outlandish theories of conspiracy supposedly perpetrated by the opposing side, extreme rage directed at the other side, unconvincing allegations of fraud and abuse in the system, and rejection of the system as a whole.

-Supporters of the losing candidate claim they didn’t legitimately lose the election; they say it was due to foreign interference and election fraud. They’re clearly high on copium.

The word Copium comes from the word “cope” which means (of a person) deal effectively with something. It’s mostly used when a person offends another. Or when an outcome you didn’t want to happen, happens. And even when someone is in your head “rent free”. It’s generally used in the political streaming communities. And 4chan.

A metaphorical substance someone "consumes" after an unfavorable outcome takes place to help them "cope" with that outcome. Usually, it will involve conjuring up some silver lining that in practice does very little or nothing to mitigate that outcome.
Citizen 1: Holy crap we just elected a fascist psychopath into office, we're done for!
Citizen 2: Well...he did at least mention that he supports recycling right? (Inhales tons of copium)
