When everything you know and rely on is torn apart, because everything you believe in is love, understanding, and a mystery feeling you can't describe. Then one day you find a happiness that makes you...well you can't describe it. Then you realize it's love for a person you never counted on falling for which makes it the first love. You've loved before but not like this. Yet, that person doesn't love you that way, and you can't not have them in your life so you watch from the side lines as they date wrong person after wrong person. Still you love them, and day after day you watch as your heart is crushed leaving you a wreck of a person still clinging to hope. You still believe that one day they'll come around, but you and everyone else knows that not true. But you believing still is what causes the most pain.

(Applying to the Male half) The male version of the hopeless romantic, is the best friend from a teen movie. The guy who loves the girl more deeply then anyone could, he fights for her, protects her. But is unrealistic when it comes to loving her. He dreams night and day about them being together, what it would be like, but it's met with shattered dreams due to the simple fact there's another man in the picture. Maybe it'll be pretty in pink or maybe it'll turn good like Win A Date With Tad Hamilton. Still regardless the tragic hero will continue to dream of that girl, and stay with her knowing he's just second fiddle.
Mr. Right our hopeless romantic watches as the dream girl goes out for the night with the smooth talker. Mr. Right lets it happen.

A woman who keeps the company of mainly gay men, and puts their needs above her own and anyone she is currently dating. This type of woman also though will deny it wants to secretly sleep with their GBFF (Gay Best Friend Forever). Also the relationship between her and her "fag" boarders on the creepy almost too close for comfort side.

That guy friend who is too good to be true. He's sweet, charismatic, and has a winning personality. Yet, he doesn't want that success and would give it up if the right woman came into his life. The Lloyd Dobbler is also a tragic hero as well, though his intentions are good and his heart is pure, he'll end up getting hurt, sad, and emo when he loses the girl. He may or may not blast a boombox outside her window to confess his love like in "Say Anything" but he'll go to the extremes to prove to the girl he's Mr. Right and pain isn't strong enough to get him down. In the end he may not always get the girl, but at the end of the day he'll still be a romantic, and all his girl friends will swoon over him.
