2.1. a temporary effect in a game that makes a character or something else more powerful (an opposite to debuff)

Then the boss casts an aoe dispel magic, dropping all our buffs -- and the next thing we know, it's a total party kill!
Since Valve buffed that Crusader's Crossbow, it actually became a somewhat viable choice!

stinking up the joint

To do something really badly. "To stink" means to do badly, "joint" here means a place. "Stink up the joint" is an exaggerated form meaning you "stink" so badly the whole place starts to stink, as if you've taken a shit.
"Oh no, Magnus! He blundered and lost his Queen! Okay, now I don't feel bad about my awful last game! Magnus is also stinking up the joint just like me today!" -- Hikaru Nakamura, on a stream in an online chess tournament, 13.11.2025

turtling

In a video game, to progress through the game at a very slow pace, much slower than designed, in order to artificially lower its difficulty. E.g. engage fewer enemies at a time, kite them for extended time, use a lot of time to heal and stock up with consumables between encounters etc. Can be used as a derogatory term if it abuses game mechanics to the point of breaking immersion. Some games have measures to prevent this tactic such as set timers to complete each part or evolving opponents who would outpace and overwhelm you in such a case.
Streamer: "Okay, this part looks tough. So I'll be taking it very slow and methodically..."
Viewer: "Read: turtling"

honest to Betsy

A weaker form of "honest to God". Since it's so much weaker, may actually imply the person is lying.
Honest to Betsy, I don't know what yer talkin' about!
