"What You See Is Not What Others Get"

A reminder that although you may believe that you have communicated your message clearly, how it appears to others may not, in reality, be the same as it appears to you.

Related to 'WYSIWYG' ('What You See Is What You Get') which was common in desktop publishing applications of yore. But when the Internet (and, later, dumbphones) arrived, browser and platform differences meant that all too often what you were seeing was most decidedly not what others were seeing.

... and, sadly, it's getting worse...
Fred: "Yeah, well, clearly you're not the sharpest tool in the shed if you couldn't understand what I meant."
Wilma: "You're still using that ancient brick, dearest. I have the latest upgrade. And, though I hate to admit it, your message came through as though it was chiselled into a stone. WYSINWOG, my dear!"

Someone who is new to technology. A non-geek.

Anything new has a tendency to invoke fear, wariness and distrust. Newcomers to the technoscene are commonly assailed with pejoratives: but we were all newbies once; and every one of us remains a noob in some field of human endeavour - nobody knows it all.

The term 'technovice' is a more polite, welcoming term. It says, "Hi there friend, I see you're new here, do you need a hand?" whereas "FOAD you loser n00b!" simply pollutes cyberspace.

The word can be read as 'tech'+'novice', describing the present state of the user's knowledge (or rather, lack of it): but hidden within is the suggestion of things to come, when read as 'techno'+'vice' :)

"Look It Up On DuckDuckGo"

Related to RTFM and LIUOG, but used by those who rebel against go ogle's de-emphasis (and, perhaps, rejection) of its erstwhile motto "Don't be evil" after its acquisition by Alphabet (with the implication that all they've done is remove the first word, "Don't".

Pendant, n.

One who, by correcting others, gives himself (or herself) just enough rope by which to hang.
Bill: "That bloke's a total pendant."

Ben: "I think you mean 'pedant,' mate."

Bill: "I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant. BTW, is this noose too tight?"
