A large 1970s trijet made by McDonnell-Douglas/Boeing. Hugely hated because its favorite hobby was crashing, catching on fire, or priding itself on being hilariously inefficient. It sounds good and looks cool but it crashes more than it flies.
"OMG wanna come to Hawaii with us?"

"Sure! What airline we takin'?"

"American Airlines, we'll be in one of those fancy DC-10s!"

"I'll stay home for this one."

A successor to the dangerous DC-10. It wasn't nearly as scary but just as inefficient! Longer, heavier, and arguably uglier. Couldn't land as short as the DC-10 and was too thirsty for fuel to compete with the 777 or the A330. It had a big following in the aviation enthusiast world but struggled to find a home in any modern commercial airline. They didn't crash as much mostly because they didn't fly as much. Any airline that still has one is working desperately to get rid of it.
"Oh, look! A DC-10!"

No, Larry, that's an MD-11."

"A what?"

Kind of like a 757, kind of like a 777. Looks like both but is obese when next to a 757 and anorexic when compared to a 777. Comes in a baby -200, a pedestrian -300 and a way-too-large-for-its-engines -400. The 767 is fairly reliable, and competitively efficient. It's out shined on many levels by the Airbus A330, which is a snooty all-electronic penalty box flown by a joystick. The 767 is more engaging and sounds better. The A330 is the one the airlines choose. Why? Because, hey, it's European and looks like an angry Twinkie. The engines that power the seven-six are the same as those on the seven-five. So the 767 is the chubby kid in gym class trying really really hard on a diet consisting of a donut for breakfast and a feeling-guilty salad for dinner and that's it.
"Are we ever gunna get off the ground?"

That's debatable if you're on a Boeing 767.

An unusually named, Audi A8 based, high-class luxury Volkswagen. Came with a choice of outrageously powerful engines, a super strong frame, great handling, and first-rate engineering and materials. Comfort was beyond superb. The Phaeton never sold well, because when rich snobs buy their $70,000 sedans, they want a name to go with it. The Phaeton was a great car, but was too similar to its Audi cousin and therefore was outsold. It will be returning for 2016, thankfully.
"Hey, is that a Volkswagen Phaeton you have?"

"Yeah. I got it for $15,000, and it's got more power than half the cars on the market today. Boy do I love undesirable gems like this!"

Volkswagen is a genuinely great car company. Their cars are built solidly, are fast, agile and fun to drive, plus they're not too expensive. They aren't overstyled like the crap Hyundais and Kias and their interiors are classy as fuck. Their lineup ranges from sporty small cars to refined large SUVs. They are even the producer the iconic Beetle and the stereotype inducing Jetta. In addition, they invented and still rule the Hot Hatchback category with the Golf GTI. Their engines are easy to work on, last forever and will run for at least 350,000 miles. Though they have a reputation for smaller things breaking, the overall quality and build solidity is exceptionally high. Parts are shared between Audi and Porsche, as they are all one company. This gives VWs the feel of much more expensive cars and has resulted in a large following of VW fans around the globe, similar to BMW or Jeep.
Dude, I juts got my new Volkswagen GTI, it's really fucking awesome. I don't think I'll buy anything else ever again.

A small, upscale hatchback that shares it's platform with the Volkswagen Jetta. Name is derived from the Atlantic Gulfstream wind current. The car itself is agile and responsive, very safe, and will carry anything you can put in it. A great choice for a first car or an all-around runabout for those days when the family Audi is too snobby. The Golf is a car for anyone- it comes in petrol, diesel and hybrid variants- and even a racy GTI version. The Golf crosses automotive boundaries like no other. This is thanks to its sportiness, practicality and it's upmarket interior and build quality. Gas mileage isn't the best and it's not the flashiest car around but overall it is a great car.
"Damn Mike, this car seems to do everything!"
"Yeah... It's a Volkswagen Golf, what do you expect?"
