Domaining is the web-based marketing business of acquiring non-trademarked Internet domain names as intellectual property investments primarily for resale. In domaining, domain parking is optional and any advertising revenue gained would be considered a bonus while awaiting the sale of a domain.
Domaining, aka "flipping domains", is occasionally confused with domaineering which involves acquiring with the intent to monetize non-trademarked Internet domain names for their use primarily as an advertising medium like virtual Internet billboards with generic domain names being highly valued for their revenue generating potential derived from attracting Internet traffic hits.
