One of the pioneers of melodic death metal (although it resembles more of a melodic "thrash" than "death" metal). They became a band kids recovering from nu-metal/mallcore would quickly pick up on. Eventually the band drifted closer and closer to commercial friendly "extreme" music starting with Reroute to Remain, which honestly wasn't that bad. From there, they made Soundtrack to Your Escape, a joke of an album where they forget they were good with solos and replaced their music with generic techno and nonsense nu-metal noise. Some people will excuse them and say, "the band needed to change, do you want them to recycle the same album over and over?!" while non-stupid people can simply see a bland desperate attempt to be the next Linkin Park here. Maturing your sound and conforming to market-researched music are two different things people! Thus another blatant sell-out band is born.
Kids who think they're cynnical about Linkin Park and listen to the new In Flames are funny for obvious reasons.

Get the In Flames mug.
Yuppy teens (or real stupid adults) that try too hard to look unique at the mall. But fail miserably since their mallgoth culture is manufactured as the alternative culture for those who act cynnical towards rap and pop, spawning a legion of pale faced losers and making Hot Topic rich.

Ironically Marilyn Manson, their God, is a marketed popstar as well.

Mallgoths lack knowledge about tr00 black metal and real goths, who were nomads during ancient times. They think you just have to listen to Marilyn Manson and shop at Hot Topic to be "unique" and "depressed".

At the mall (which they practically live in), they complain about everything, even about how commercial the mall is.
The mallgoth was depressed that his mommy didn't buy him a new over priced trench coat at Hot Topic so he locked himself up in his black room and listened to Marilyn Manson all day.

Somebody that tries too hard to not be "typical" by saying they like whatever isn't the trend. Usually they listen to post-rock like Mogwai, Sigur Ros, and Interpol. (I like some of those bands too but I don't keep shoving my musical taste at a bunch of n*sync fans to try to feel a false sense of superiority) And they like anything described as "indie"; movies like Ghost World, Donnie Darko, Requiem for a Dream, and Whale Rider. If you said those movies were popular(which they pretty much are) they would get pissed. Basically, they're people that miss the point about actually enjoying something cause they're too caught up at trying to look cultured, therefore they are posers.
"After watching Donnie Dark and listening to the new Godspeed You! Black Emperor a millionth time, the pseudo-intellectual sipped java at the "cool" cafe where he talked about how intellectual he was for not liking anything marketed"
