Used in response to anything, usually over text messages. Often used when unrelatable, and symbolizes that you don't care, and aren't paying attention.

Guy 1: Hey, what's up?
Guy 2: nm u
Guy 1: Painting in Rome, by a beautiful river. You?
Guy 2: same
Guy 1: Really?
Guy 2: no lol

NMU

Originating from the phrase "nm u" in response to asking a question similar to "What's up?", an NMU is a person who seriously does not give a flying fuck about what you have to say. These people often seem uninterested over text, and would rather be doing whatever they are doing. They are the apotheosis of not giving a shit. NMU's often use terms such as 'same', 'wow!!', and 'cool' etc. Use 'lol' to compensate for the complete 'I don't give a shit' in their soul. Occasionally will use sarcastic exclamation marks. Never uses capitalized letters, unless screaming.

Guy 1: Hey, what's up?
Girl 1: nm u
Guy 1: Uh, just sort of watching TV.
Girl 1: wow thats really cool!!!!!!
Guy 1: Fuck this, you're an NMU.

lol

An acronym that used to represent laughing out loud, in response to a humorous phrase, situation, or message. Commonly used on any instant message or SMS. However, due to the over-usage of 'lol', it has become a word to represent how much you don't care about whatever was just said. 'Lol' should be illegal. It is the least satisfying response to anything, alongside 'hah'. If 'lol' is used in response to something completely irrelevant, just leave. They seriously do not care what you have to say.

Guy 1: Visiting my family at the beach after being in Europe for 3 months!
Guy 2: lol
Guy 1: -never talks to guy 2 again-
