It's a term used in recovery circles. It's just listening to someone share without daydreaming, interrupting, or offering advice. You know, actually paying attention. Not folding laundry.

The subject matter is likely of a serious nature which is why it wants to be heard in a serious manner. It's just symmetry between talking and listening.
