The period of time between New Year's Eve and Easter. A period of punishment, suffering; especially suffering winter's coldest weather and deepest freezes without any mercy, and with absolutely nothing happy to look forward to, and no light at the end of the tunnel until as late as just a few days prior to Easter. Covers the months of January, February, and usually March. Sometimes even goes into April.

Probably much more older than the modern word "weirdo".
