Yaoi is a term used to describe adult themes and graphic materials centering on romantic relationships between two (or more) males (always NC-17+ rated). Yaoi is actually a Japanese acronym shown below.

Yaoi is basically a PWP. Like the components that make up its name, yaoi does not have a point, meaning, or end (seemingly), seeing as it is, most often, just graphic sex, and, in no ways limited in explicit descriptions of foreplay.
Some can argue that yaoi is not meaningless. However, yaoi is often utilized in shounen-ai pieces, which concentrate on the plot. Yaoi, itself, is the detailed description of the sexual process, which can be easily left out of the piece without changing the depth of the story. An anime and manga slang that is used to refer to ''Gay'' or ''boy-to-boy'' relationship. Whilst this is something you wouldn't expect to be so popular... It is. The opposite of Yaoi is Yuri which means ''Lesbian'' or ''girl-to-girl''. Yaoi consists 95% of the time out of graphic fanfics.

Japanese for Guy x Guy or Guy on Guy love a.k.a. male coupling. Yaoi is the coupling of any male of any kind. Including: Anime, Manga, reality, Books, Video Games, Movies, etc. Related to Yuri: Girl x Girl/Girl on Girl and Shonen-ai: Yaoi but with a little less "action" per say.

a male/male type of hentai that anime fangirls (and some boys) like to watch. homosexuality within anime that is fanmade (90% of the time). it is very graphic and usually has sexual content not meant for people under 18.... but more 12-15 year olds watch it more than anything lol. Yuri is the opposite of Yaoi which has female/female hentai.
