Here, core "cultural molecules"—fundamental myths, master narratives, aesthetic forms, and ritual practices—arrange themselves into a stable, repeating, and often beautiful superstructure. This cultural lattice gives life meaning and coherence, refracting experience through predictable patterns. However, a crystallized culture becomes inflexible and self-referential; it filters out disruptive foreign elements (cultural diffusion, new ideas) and can only grow by adding more of the same pattern. Innovation is limited to minor variations within the lattice. Under sufficient stress, it doesn't evolve—it shatters.
