Dense Suburban “cute” town with a upscale charming downtown setting with tons of restaurants, breweries, wine tasting rooms, art galleries, pastry shops, cocktail bars. The New York of New Jersey but nicer and charming with a sense of community: Cranford-Westfield-Summit-Millburn. Townie Town refers to more than just a town you live in but the feeling it of community and connection it brings.
I love living in a townie town! There’s so much to do in downtown! You can grab your coffee and pastry and sit on a bench in the circle under the clock with the passing sounds of the train. (This is more than just any town with a train. The feeling is more like being on a movie set)

That special time of year when college kids, crackheads, and high school dropouts alike ban together to celebrate their degeneracy. Includes all loose behavior, such as throwing up in the bar, peeing in the middle of the street, stealing traffic cones, and any other loose behavior.
Friend one; "Jim is really taking part in townie season this year"
Friend two; "Last night he blacked out and punched a hole in the wall before falling asleep face down on the couch, kids loose."

In the US, townies are a variety of resident of Massachusetts (which they will often refer to as “the Commonwealth” — e.g., “I couldn’t find an open packy in the whole Commonwealth”). Closely related to the “Masshole,” townies are often found in places like Revere and Chelmsford (only Wellesley is wholly townie-free). The townie is extremely proud of his Massachusetts parochialism and may not know that the Berkshires exist.
If the townie attends college at all, it is most likely the state college in his hometown (e.g., Bridgewatah State), which the townie will often refer to as “13th grade.” Despite the townie college experience involving being reunited with one’s high school chums, the townie will typically drop out mid-second semestah, whereupon he will most often pursue a life of “landscapin’ in the summah and snowplowin’ in the wintah,” often in pahtnahship with high school chums.
The townie hyperbolically enjoys Boston sports and vacations exclusively in Hyannis, which, despite its connections to the Kennedy family, is mostly strip malls and Super 8s.
Notable examples of townies include the entire Affleck family.
Townies have been depicted in media in “Beautiful Girls,” on “SNL” by J. Fallon and R. Dratch, and most famously in “Good Will Hunting,” the “Citizen Kane” of townieism (with Ben Affleck giving an Oscah-worthy performance as Ben Affleck).
Townies and Dunkin’ Donuts have a complex symbiotic relationship that Hahvuhd sociologists are still unable to explain.

“My uncle once saw Whitey Bulger in the Dunky by the packy — the one that’s always filled with townies.”

In rural Canada, townie simply means an individual who grew up in a town, as opposed to someone who grew up in a thoroughly rural area. Townie has connotations of bourgeois. It indicates a cultural division. The townie would have all of the pretenses and trappings of those from large cities. He/she would be fully intent on attending University. Their music and fashion tastes would be cosmopolitan. Unlike their rural counterparts, they would NOT live to hunt deer and moose, go mudding, and make a sporadic living off of cutting firewood and informal mechanical repairs. There is a bit of disdain from rural folk for the townie, notably for the townie's lack of self-sufficiency. However, the townie often has respect for the rural lifestyle and is likely, at times, to affect it.
