Metal, armor, chains, or scales tattooed on one's body to make one appear to be tougher than one actually is. The process does not make one's skin tougher, but tends to actually tenderize the muscles, having an adverse effect on the relative toughness of the skin.

A type of armor present in the base game of Rimworld. Created by Tynan Sylvester. It is most commonly obtained after researching: Smithing > Plate Armor > Machining > Flak Armor. It can also be obtained by killing pawns that spawn with it such as raiders or those in caravans that wander into the map. This is not advised as pawns wearing gear from a dead person will suffer a mood debuff. There are 3 variations of Flak armor. Flak Helmets, Flak Jackets, and Flak Vests in the base game.
Author's Note: It is a good mid-game armor that will last you long enough to hopefully get to Marine or Recon armor. It's good at stopping bullets and some fire damage, but doesn't do very well with blunt and environmental temperature.

"If only I had given my pawns some Flak Armor, that way Martinius would'nt have gotten killed by a pikeman after shooting him through his heart!"
