BPU is a term commonly used in the "tuner culture." This term stands for Basic Performance Upgrades.

Another use of the term BPU sometimes occurs when describing a vehicle - such as saying, "He's got a BPU Supra." When used in this fashion, the BPU is being an adjective and describes the car as having its (the car's) performance upgraded with basic parts.
BPU's mainly include exhaust systems, headers, downpipes, smaller-sized turbos, etc. (Upgrades that are not considered basic include twin-turbo systems that are not stock, boring out the engine, engine-swaps, nitrous, etc.)

Vehicles that are commonly referred to as being "BPU" are Civics (well..most Hondas), Supras, Evos, STIs, etc. This is one term in the "tuning culture" that is not limited to Japanese automobiles.

Street Racing Syndicate

This was a game that came out to rival Need for Speed Underground 1. It came out a little too late - about the same time as Need for Speed Underground 2. SRS is better than NFSU 1 but not NFSU 2. SRS is the only game to actually have realistic exhaust systems, unlike the "tips" in NFSU games (the only problem is that the sound of the car never changes). Another major difference with SRS is the realistic damage. There are not many games that you have to take your car back to the shop to fix. Some find this irritating and some love the realism.
To challenge the NFSU series again, SRS 2 is supposedly in the making.
- "Can you believe a got a copy of SRS for only 20 bucks?"
- "Yeah, that game was too little too late."

R.S.D. stands for Real Street Drags. Real street drags are races that are to appeal to street racers so as to get them off of the streets and have them race in the safe, and legal, confines of a drag racing track (Quarter mile, in most cases). Typically, the rules of "Real Street Drag" racing are much less complicated than those of regulated drag racing. The term "R.S.D." is said to have originated in Union Grove, Wisconsin at Great Lakes Dragaway.
I'm going to play it safe and not race on HW100 tonight. Instead, you can find me at the RSD event at "Da' Grove."
