adobe threshold

In software engineering, the point of inelegance when a codebase will collapse in on itself like a mud house. It is conceptually similar to the Chandrasekhar Limit, the mass above which a star can collapse into a black hole.

A codebase that has surpassed the adobe threshold cannot be completely understood at one time, because its complexity is too much for someone to keep in their head. This can lead to additional problems ranging from duplicated code to whole systems that do nothing but fight each other.

Collapsed codebases are not maintainable, which means they cannot have bugs fixed or functionality added. Engineers may contain collapse by applying emergency encapsulation measures, walling off entire features like junk-filled rooms in a vast house.

If you bring in any more mercenary programmers, our codebase is going to pass the adobe threshold and collapse.

Indian Threshold 

The threshold of annoyance you have to inflict on your friend before he / she insinuates that you are an Indian.

This usually works on people of Pakistani origin due to the historical hostility between the two nations. Probably works the other way around as well.

Jess: Hey help me pick out an invitation card for my fiance'.
Farhan: Hahh .. another birthday? How old is he? Around 40 now?
Jess: Eeewww he's not! That would make him 17 years older than me!
Jess: Stop being an indian.
Farhan: Ooooohh .. INDIAN THRESHOLD CROSSED!!

Kenneally Threshold 

The metric given when having to decide the number of customers that should be catered for, typically 5% or greater.

Hey man, should we support the edge browser? It doesn't meet the Kenneally threshold but still affects over 20,000 users. "Naaaa, if its less than 5%, its not worth supporting"

the amount of information needed about a topic in order to be able to bullshit a conversation or answer a question about it about it and have everyone think you actually know what you're talking about

Guy A: How did you talk to Alexandra last night about Harry Potter? I didn't think you read those books?
Guy B: I didn't, but I saw some of the movies and remember hearing my friends talking about the series that I had enough info to get past the bullshit threshold and make some jokes about the series to her.

Student A: You don't own the book for the class, how did you know about Edmund Randolph?
Students B: Guess I read enough of the Constututional Convention wikipedia article that I reached the bullshit threshold about it.

cross the threshold

The threshold was a log or length of wood placed in the entranceway of the peasant's hut or accommodation provided by the landlord. It contained within the hut the layers of thresh i.e. waste from harvesting corn or wheat. It built up in layers.

The newly wed husband would carry his wife across the thresh hold (threshold) to a comfortable area inside the dwelling - hence they would cross the threshold.
